Winter is a season when the skin is more easily affected due to the dry air and the severe cold that dries out and deteriorates the way your skin looks.  Here we’ll give you some very good and practical tips, inexpensive and simple, so your skin shines this winter with a beautiful glow.
Take care of your skin in winter

Say “NO” to dry skin

Cleaning the skin and a proper diet are always necessary and recommended habits for any skin type.  However, during winter you must intensify your skin care to avoid flaky, dry, and chapped skin.  Focus your attention on your face and hands, which generally are more exposed to the  weather.  Use a mask at least two times a week and eat lots of foods high in vegetable fats, such as nuts, sesame, almonds, peanuts.  Stay well hydrated by drinking at least 2 liters of water (these can be hot herbal teas specially prepared for dry skin).

The following herbs and ingredients can be used in a mask as suggested.  We’ve listed the most effective herbs in preventing dry skin, and if you wish, take make a nice warm drink!

  • acacia flower
  • strawberry leaves
  • peach leaves
  • chamomile
  • crushed fennel
  • lavender
  • finely ground licorice root
  • mint

These masks should contain the following ingredients as well.  The mask will frequently last up to one day in the fridge, still retaining its properties.  It’s best to prepare the masks each time that you use it, preferably before showering or at night (ideally at night).  The following masks are for dry skin, or skin that has the tendency to be dry.

  • One large slice of papaya
  • One tablespoon of oatmeal
  • One teaspoon of honey
  • Two tablespoons of olive oil
  • Two tablespoons of plain yogurt
  • One tablespoon of your choice of the above mentioned herbs

Mix all ingredients together until making a “smooth cream“.  You can use a blender.  If it’s thick , add a little bit more yogurt.  Once ready, spread the cream over clean skin, including the neck.  Wet a towel with warm water and place on your face allowing the warm water to open your pores.  Allow the natural oils from the mask to penetrate your skin.  When the towel has cooled a bit, remove it and repeat once more.  Repeat with the hands.
