Bad breath, or halitosis, can be caused by several things, including dental, stomach or digestive problems, or it could even come from constipation.  Regardless of the cause, the consequences are generally the same: low self-esteem, sadness, depression, and people can even become less communicative.

Out with Bad Breath using Vitamin CIf you’re suffering from these symptoms, the first thing you need to do is to detect its origin.  Remember, halitosis indicates that something is functioning poorly inside the body.

Vitamin C

The goods news, however, is that vitamin C is a great ally for fighting and preventing bad breath.  How should you take it?  You can take vitamin C in the form of juice, as this element is present in oranges, lemons, mandarins, camu camu, and more.

Consume them three times a week, and drink a lot of water.

One example for this type of juice is to make an orange and spinach juice.  Here’s how to make it:

Ingredients

  • Half an apple
  • 1 orange
  • 1 handful of spinach

Wash, peel and cut the half apple into pieces.  Then wash your orange and cut it in half.  Squeeze the juice out.  Lastly, wash and dice your spinach.  Place all the ingredients in a blender and process for a few moments.  When it’s ready, drink.  You could also add the juice from 3 lemons.

Get rid of canker sores

Vitamin C not only gets rid of bad breath, but it also prevents the appearance of canker sores and other oral wounds, making is especially recommendable for smokers.

Flossing

Another piece of good advice for improving your breath is to not only brush three items a day, but use floss for a deep and thorough cleaning.  In a previous article – Dental Floss can save your from Cardiac Illness – we talked about how floss is a vital tool for prevent illnesses involving the heart.

More advice

Chew wheat leaves, cloves and parsley, and eat a lot of fiber, fruits and vegetables to prevent constipation and bad breath.  Whole grain rice also fights halitosis.

Don’t forget that alcohol and cigarettes often times leave a bad taste in the mouth.  This could come from the lungs, which are affected by smoking, so it is better to avoid or reduce smoking habits.

Gargles and mouth rinses

Another way of getting fresh and cleaner breath is to gargle with tea, salt or lemon.  This will clean your entire mouth and throat.

One type of rinse that is great for this uses sodium bicarbonate.  Dissolve it in a bit of water and rinse your mouth with it after brushing.  Repeat at least twice a week.  You could also add bicarbonate to your toothpaste.
